Enrique Iglesias and I Have One More Thing In Common!: We Love Miami’s Kennedy Park

3 May

Luscious lawns for lounging, Kennedy Park, Miami, May 2012

I am lucky enough to live close to David T. Kennedy Park in Coconut Grove. Overlooking Biscayne Bay, the park offers plenty of recreation as well as amazing views. It spans 29 acres and features a hiking and biking trail, exercise stations, volleyball courts, a disc golf course, and playground. I like this park because it has something to offer patrons of every age group and area of interest. There’s even a large fenced-in dog park where owners can bask in the sun and mingle.

I don’t particularly enjoy running, but the boardwalk is so picturesque I am inspired to pick up the pace. As you enter this canopied detour, you’re hit with a sea breeze that makes you forget you don’t relish strenuous physical activity. Almost every runner and walker I passed had a smile on their face.

The park is full of locals when I visit in the evenings before sunset. I’m expecting to see some celebrity neighbors as well. After all, Miamiandbeaches.com states, “Singer Enrique Iglesias says Miami’s Kennedy Park is his favorite park in his hometown.” Lebron lives a few streets over, too. Perhaps the three of us can share an iced beverage from the famous Frozen Lemonade truck in the parking lot.

Kennedy Park has inspired me to embark on a Greater Miami Area Parks and Rec Challenge. I’m aiming to visit all of the local parks to see the unique qualities each has to offer! Of course, I will write about each one along the way. Feel free to comment with any recommendations or tips for other amazing Miami parks.
